Leisure Isle Social Committee was started with the aim of building the Island community by offering all our residents opportunities to come together, socialise, and get to know one another better.

Being part of a caring community not only gives us a sense of purpose and worth, but also adds joy and years to our lives! Also these days so many of us are distracted by our cell phones and internet, being social creatures, it is good to have the chance to connect with our neighbours, friends and even strangers and enjoy one another’s company!

The highlight of our year’s calendar is held the evening before the Leisure Isle Festival, when the Island Community comes together to celebrate the night before the start of the Leisure Isle Festival. All Islanders are welcome to pop in for a meal and ‘chill’ with friends in a ‘festive’ environment.

Another of our regular events is the ‘Sundowner’ evening in January at the Leisure Isle Boat Club - at a time of the year when we enjoy long balmy evenings. Islanders are encouraged to bring their friends and enjoy a casual evening of music and a delicious boerewors roll in this idyllic setting with stunning lagoon views.

The Barefoot Beach walk is usually held in April at spring low tide, with a walk along the beach on the front of the Island, and ending with a cappuccino and croissants. Walking, talking and making new friends in this beautiful environment is what this outing is all about!

Other recent events have included a long table event named the ‘Harvest Table’, held under Lindy’s enormous fig trees, with fabulous food and candles creating a special ambiance, and a “Christmas in July” dinner at the Leisure Isle Lodge. This was an intimate evening in a beautiful venue where guests each brought a gift (something warm) to donate to those less fortunate.

Please be in touch if you would like to join our happy and enthusiastic Social Committee! We plan to host a cheese and wine “History of the Island” get-together, where Islanders can share their memories and experiences of Island life in years gone by!

Our next event is the LI Festival Celebration, on Friday, 7th November. Looking forward to seeing you there!
